Mount Dirfys Welcomes the Dirfys Trail Run 2024: A Challenge for All
The Dirfys Trail Run 2024 concluded with great success on the weekend of November 23-24 in Steni, Evia. Over 1,400 athletes from all over Greece and abroad participated in a race that combined sportsmanship with the natural beauty of Mount Dirfys, creating a unique experience for both participants and spectators.
Mount Dirfys: An Impressive Natural Paradise
Mount Dirfys, the highest mountain in Evia, with its peak reaching 1,743 meters, is one of the most stunning natural landscapes in Greece. Its rich biodiversity, dense fir forests, rushing streams, and trails through steep slopes and picturesque gorges make it an ideal destination for nature adventures.
Its rugged peaks challenge mountaineering enthusiasts, while the lower slopes host serene trails perfect for hiking, running, and cycling. The variety of its landscapes attracts nature lovers of all kinds, fostering a unique bond between nature and adventure.

Evia, the second-largest island in Greece, is a unique destination for those who love nature and outdoor activities. From the imposing mountains of central Evia, such as Dirfys and Xirovouni, to the scenic landscapes and exotic beaches, the island blends beauty and diversity.
In northern Evia, mountains like Kantili, Pyxarias, Tanaida, and Telethrio captivate with their lush forests, gorges, and natural springs, offering a unique haven for hiking and exploration. The traditional villages nestled at the foothills of these mountains retain the region's authentic charm, while the forested slopes exude life and tranquility.

The Routes of Dirfys Trail Run
Heros’ Feat – 30 km
The most demanding race of the event spanned 32.5 km with a maximum altitude difference of 1,603 meters. Runners began at the Steni elementary school and traversed technically challenging trails and mountain dirt roads. The course featured dense forests, steep slopes, and stunning viewpoints, delivering a unique athletic experience.
Dirfys Trails – 15 km
This 14.6 km route with an altitude difference of 840 meters combined technical trails, dirt roads, and idyllic scenery. Athletes had the opportunity to run through forests and cross picturesque streams, with breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea from the higher points of the route.
Kantzos Trail – 5 km
The shortest route, spanning 5.5 km with a maximum altitude difference of 250 meters, was the ideal choice for beginners, children, and families. The terrain, including scenic trails and dirt roads, allowed participants of all ages to enjoy nature and the joy of participation.
Big Bear Downhill – 4 km
This 4 km downhill route started from Sika Ridge and ended in the picturesque village of Steni. With a negative altitude difference of 500 meters, it challenged participants with its technical terrain, while the final kilometer through the village provided a warm and festive finish.

All athletes who completed the Dirfys Trail Run 2024 were honored with specially designed medals, inspired by the natural beauty of Mount Dirfys. Evia Runners Association: The Driving Force Behind the Dirfys Trail Run
The Evia Runners Association, organizer of the renowned mountain running event Dirfys Trail Run, was established in March 2018 by a group of veterans and young individuals who share a passion for sports, the natural environment, and the cultural heritage of Evia.
Starting with an initial team of 20 members, the association has evolved into a dynamic community that now counts approximately 200 members, with this number steadily growing.
The main goal of the association is to promote athletic activity, foster a spirit of camaraderie and solidarity, offer recreational opportunities, and highlight the history and natural beauty of the region. At the same time, it encourages social development, based on the principles of sportsmanship and collaboration.
Through the annual organization of events like the Dirfys Trail Run and road running races, the Evia Runners Association promotes sports, showcases the natural beauty of the area, and strengthens the local community through initiatives that emphasize solidarity and teamwork.
