North Evia puts on its cinematic face and invites us on a unique journey of images, sounds, and stories. The 4th Evia Film Project, taking place from June 17 to 21, 2025, in three wonderful destinations — Agia Anna, Edipsos, and Limni — is now an established institution, offering cultural regeneration to an area in great need of sustainable initiatives after the devastating wildfires of 2021.
What is the Evia Film Project?
The Evia Film Project is an initiative of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, aiming to combine cinema with ecology, sustainability, and local reconstruction. At the heart of the project lies environmental awareness through the art of cinema. It is not just a simple festival – it is a cultural intervention with depth and vision.
The Theme: The Relationship with Summer
This year, the Evia Film Project focuses on “Greek summer”: what it means, what stereotypes it creates, how we can experience it sustainably, especially in an area like Northern Evia that was so heavily affected by the 2021 fires. The goal is to present a new approach, where light, tourism, the natural environment, and cultural heritage coexist harmoniously.
Screenings, Events, and Programs
Opening film: The beloved musical “Mamma Mia!” in an open-air summer screening with a DJ set after the show.
Closing film: The Greek success “Yparcho,” with a tribute to Stelios Kazantzidis at the Apollon cinema in Aidipsos, with the presence of the director and contributors.
Classics & Documentaries: Among others, the classic Greek comedy “Jenny Jenny,” and environmental documentaries (e.g. “The Light Returns”).
Screenings for all: Dubbed “Madagascar” for families, as well as selected domestic and international films, VR screenings with ecological content, and short films.
Masterclasses – Creators’ Experiences
In Agia Anna, the event includes masterclasses with renowned professionals: Maria Kalimani, Maria Anestopoulou (Animasyros), Argyris Papadimitropoulos, Kostis Charamountanis, and others share their knowledge with participants from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Agora
A multitude of professional activities take place: meetings, an educational ecological excursion with WWF, self-awareness workshops, and a circular economy model that supports creators and works that have been presented at major festivals.
Music & Cultural Surprises
On Saturday, June 21 — World Music Day — musical surprises are organized ranging from traditional to art and jazz, in locations such as Thermopotamos Square, the Park, Kyma, and more. A spectacle that complements the cinematic experience.
Activities for Children & Youth
Robotics workshops, environmental workshops with WWF, “Shall We Play Cinema?” for children and teenagers: kids explore the relationship between humans and nature through action, play, and art.
Where does it take place?
The festival's activities are spread across three iconic locations in Northern Evia:
Agia Anna: Seaside and picturesque, with natural beauty and a distinct summer character.
Edipsos: Famous for its thermal springs, it offers a combination of relaxation and culture.
Limni Evia: Traditional and atmospheric, it serves as an authentic artistic canvas for open-air screenings.
