The Picturesque Village of Evia, Where Nature and Tradition Blend Harmoniously
Nestled among chestnut and fir trees, plane trees, and crystal-clear waters, Seta (or Setta) is the most mountainous village on the island of Evia and an ideal destination for every season of the year. The village stands out for its unparalleled charm, with narrow cobblestone streets inviting visitors to stroll among traditional stone-built houses with tiled roofs.

In the central square, under the shade of majestic plane trees, you can enjoy a coffee or a local dessert while observing the tranquil life of the village. The welcoming locals and the relaxing atmosphere create the perfect setting for moments of peace. After your coffee, a stroll through the village will reveal small flower-filled courtyards, well-preserved stone details, and architectural elements that tell stories from the past.

At the end of the day, you can sit at one of the village tavernas and enjoy dishes prepared with local recipes, accompanied by wine or tsipouro (local spirit), while gazing at the lush green landscape. The village is built at an altitude of 800 meters, on the southern slope of Mount Xirovouni in Central Evia, and is one of the first areas on the island to be covered in snow during winter. It consists of two settlements, Ano and Kato Seta (upper and lower Seta) , featuring picturesque stone-built houses with traditional tiled roofs, while natural springs can be found throughout the area.

The wider area is well-known among seasoned travelers for its natural beauty and the opportunities it offers for alternative mountain activities. It is famous for its exceptional aromatic mountain herbs, such as the unique Evian variety of tea, oregano, sage, and more. Be sure to stock up on these treasures and even try your hand at a mushroom foraging excursion.

Historical Roots and Stronghold of Chieftains
Although Seta's roots trace back to the 16th century, when the first settlement was established by shepherds, the village experienced significant growth towards the end of the Ottoman period, when populations from the lowlands of Evia and Epirus migrated to the area. The wooden carved iconostasis in the central church of Agia Paraskevi, in Ano Seta, is the only example of Epirus-style craftsmanship found on the island.
According to local tradition, the village's name derives from the French wife of the Turkish landowner of the area. During the years of the Greek Revolution, the forests and mountains surrounding Seta served as a stronghold for local chieftains.
