The Holy Monastery of Galataki

The Holy Monastery of Saint Nicholas Galatakis is a historic monastery located near Limni, Evia, on the slopes of the steep Mount Kandili, with stunning views of the Northern Evian Gulf. Today, the monastery functions as a nunnery, and its foundation dates back to Byzantine times. According to the prevailing tradition, its name derives from a sailor from Galata, Constantinople, who survived a storm and later became a monk at the monastery.

It was rebuilt in 1877, and inside its katholikon (main church), precious relics are kept, including the relics of Saint David, his censer, and his stole.

One of the monastery’s most important relics is the loan register of Angelis Govios, which attests to the monastery's support for the struggle, lending 1,000 groschen for freedom.
