A Modern Spa Town with Deep Roots in Antiquity
Edipsos or Aidpsos, also known as Loutra Edipsou, is located in the northern part of Evia island and is one of the oldest and most famous spa and wellness destinations, not only in Greece but also in Europe. This town is renowned for its thermal springs and their history, which stretches from ancient times to today, attracting visitors from all over the world.
The Baths and Sulla’s Cave
The baths, later named in his honor as Thermae Syllae, are a monument to the Roman presence in the area and remain one of Edipsos' main historical and cultural attractions. The area still carries the names of its famous visitors from that time, further enhancing its timeless association with wellness and rejuvenation.
Edipsos' connection to the Roman Empire not only endured but was strengthened over the centuries, with the region continuing to be regarded as one of the most important therapeutic destinations in Europe, attracting visitors seeking healing and relaxation through its thermal springs even today.
Today, Edipsos retains this historical heritage but has evolved into a modern spa and wellness destination, attracting not only visitors seeking therapeutic benefits but also those looking to enjoy moments of relaxation and luxury.
Thermal Springs and Hydrotherapy
Edipsos, with over 60 different thermal springs, is one of Greece's top wellness and therapeutic destinations. The temperatures of the springs range from 34 to 71.2 degrees Celsius, and their waters are rich in minerals such as magnesium, calcium, iron, and sulfur, giving them strong therapeutic properties.

Covering an area of 23.5 acres and located just 500 meters from Edipsos’ port, the hydrotherapy center offers unique treatments based on the area’s thermal waters. The new hydrotherapy center has replaced the old historic "Agioi Anargyroi" building, which was constructed before 1950 and is now classified as a preserved monument.
The modern hydrotherapy center includes 84 baths and hydromassage tubs, whirlpools, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, as well as a physiotherapy center equipped with devices for electrotherapy and exercise. With the capacity to serve over 15,500 visitors a year, this hydrotherapy center is a key location for wellness tourism in Greece. Notable is the outdoor swimming pool, which operates with a mixture of thermal and seawater.
The thermal water from Edipsos’ springs, derived from five sources, is rich in minerals and is suitable for treating musculoskeletal, neurological, gynecological, and dermatological conditions, as well as endocrinological issues. However, the water is contraindicated for patients with systemic infectious diseases or severe conditions such as liver and kidney failure.
An interesting aspect of visiting the hydrotherapy center is the Archaeological Collection of Edipsos, housed on the mezzanine floor of the building. Visitors can see artifacts from the prehistoric settlement of Koubio, pottery from the geometric and Roman periods, as well as exhibits related to hydrotherapy and local ancient religious practices. This collection highlights the historical significance of hydrotherapy in the area, linking the past with the present.
The EOT Hydrotherapy Center in Edipsos thus serves as a destination that combines modern health care with historical and cultural traditions, offering visitors an experience of wellness and rejuvenation in an environment rich in heritage.
